P.V. NARSIMHA RAO TELANGANA VETERINARY UNIVERSITY Summary
P. V. Narasimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University is Telangana’s specialized public university for veterinary, animal, dairy and fisheries sciences. Established after the formation of Telangana in 2014, the university was created to provide the new state with an independent system for professional education, livestock research and farmer-oriented extension. It is named after former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao, a prominent leader from the region. The institution inherited a substantial academic lineage: veterinary education in Hyderabad had earlier developed under Osmania University, Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University, Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University and Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University before the Telangana reorganization. This historical continuity allowed the university to begin with established colleges, research stations and clinical facilities. Its academic network includes veterinary colleges, dairy-technology education and fisheries study, with expansion into additional campuses as state needs have grown. Veterinary Clinical Complexes and university hospitals support practical training and animal-health services, while specialized laboratories work in areas such as feed analysis, biotechnology and reproductive technologies. Research institutes and stations address poultry, livestock production, fisheries and region-specific animal husbandry problems. Extension activity is equally important: constituent colleges and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra connect university expertise with livestock farmers, fishers and rural communities. The university therefore follows an integrated model linking professional education, laboratory and field research, clinical services and technology transfer. Its mandate is closely tied to Telangana’s livestock economy, food systems and rural livelihoods. The College of Veterinary Science at Rajendranagar, one of the university’s principal institutions, has a much older history and passed through several predecessor universities before becoming part of PVNRTVU. The university has expanded veterinary education beyond Hyderabad through colleges at other Telangana locations, strengthening regional access to professional training. Research and teaching remain closely connected within this framework. Student access and public service remain important institutional priorities.
