Sidhi Gets Rail Connectivity for the First Time Since Independence
Sidhi district in Madhya Pradesh has been connected to the railway network for the first time since Independence. On October 24, 2026, the Rewa–Churhat rail section was inaugurated and a new Devendranagar–Churhat passenger train service was flagged off. The development is part of a broader expansion of rail links across the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions.
The new connection comes through two sections opened under the Lalitpur–Singrauli New Rail Line Project. The Rewa–Churhat section links the Rewa and Sidhi regions; Churhat is in Sidhi district. The separate Satna–Devendra Nagar section extends rail access across areas around Satna and Nagod. Together, the two sections add 118 kilometres of railway line.

What the New Connection Could Mean for Residents
The railway link gives residents another travel option and may make journeys for education, healthcare, work and trade easier. The Ministry of Railways also expects the wider project to support freight movement, including goods such as cement and clinker, and improve access to markets for local producers. These are expected benefits; their scale will depend on how services and freight operations develop.
The Rewa–Churhat route crosses hilly terrain and includes bridges and tunnels, including a tunnel reported to be 3.33 kilometres long. The larger Lalitpur–Singrauli project is approximately 541 kilometres and is intended to strengthen connections among parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, including Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli.
