IIM Bangalore Fees vs Placements: Understanding the ₹30 Lakh-Plus Package Question
IIM Bangalore’s latest published placement report puts the PGP and PGP in Business Analytics (PGPBA) Class of 2024–26 above the ₹30 lakh mark on both median and average salary. For comparison, the domestic fee listed for the incoming PGP 2026–28 batch is ₹26 lakh for two years. These figures help applicants compare course cost with reported outcomes, but they do not guarantee an individual salary or show how quickly every student will recover the fee.
Fees and placement figures
| Measure | Latest figure | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| PGP fee, domestic 2026–28 batch | ₹26 lakh | Two-year fee; includes tuition, library, internet, course materials, hostel room rent and service charge, insurance and alumni activity |
| General caution deposit | ₹30,000 | One-time payment at registration, listed separately from the fee |
| Mess advance | ₹30,000 | Payable each term, in addition to the listed fee |
| Median salary, PGP + PGPBA 2024–26 | ₹34.75 lakh per annum | Half of reported salaries were at or below this figure and half at or above |
| Average salary, PGP + PGPBA 2024–26 | ₹35.35 lakh per annum | Mean reported salary for the combined graduating cohort |
What does “₹30 lakh-plus” mean?
The 2026 placement report covers the combined PGP and PGPBA graduating cohort. IIMB reported 596 students participating and 664 offers from 177 firms. The median is a more useful reference point than the average when considering a typical outcome, because a few high salaries can raise the average. Neither number means every graduate received a salary above ₹30 lakh.
The 2025 report recorded a median salary of ₹32.61 lakh and an average of ₹34.88 lakh for PGP and PGPBA graduates. In 2026, the reported median rose to ₹34.75 lakh and the average to ₹35.35 lakh. Year-to-year results can change with the graduating cohort, roles, employers and hiring conditions; they should not be treated as a promised outcome for a future intake.
How should applicants compare fee and salary?
A simple comparison shows that the 2026 median annual salary is higher than the stated two-year fee. That arithmetic is not the same as a return-on-investment calculation: the fee is paid over the programme, while salary is an annual reported figure. It does not account for taxes, living costs, loan interest, time out of work, or a student’s actual compensation structure. IIMB also states that applicable taxes may be collected separately, and students must pay mess advances each term.
Applicants should check the current fee page for their admission batch, review the full placement report, and compare median salary alongside average salary. Ask whether the figures apply to PGP, PGPBA or both, and consider financial aid if the fee is a concern. IIMB says eligible PGP students with annual household income below ₹8 lakh may apply for need-based financial aid; other students facing severe unforeseen financial difficulty may also be considered.
