Technische Universität Braunschweig Summary
The Technical University of Braunschweig is a public university located in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony. TU Braunschweig is the successor of the Collegium Carolinum and the oldest technical university in Germany with core areas in engineering, mobility, aerospace, natural sciences, architecture, pharmacy, humanities and teacher training. Institutional development 1745 – Establishment of the Collegium Carolinum by Duke Carl I. 1835 – Extension of technical and scientific teaching. Today the academic profile is mechanical and electrical engineering, mobility, aerospace, civil engineering, architecture, computer science, natural sciences, pharmacy, humanities and education. The location is important as Braunschweig is one of Europe’s research intensive regions with automotive, aerospace, rail, metrology, federal research institutes, manufacturing, software and cultural employers.
This master file captures the course portfolio of 29 undergraduate and 34 postgraduate entries, with subject combinations grouped under the parent degree where appropriate. For undergraduates, examples are Architecture, Biology, Biotechnology, Business Information Systems, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and in later years Technology-Oriented Management, Teacher Education, Battery and Hydrogen Technology. Postgraduate studies include Architecture, Artificial Intelligence for Molecular Sciences, Automotive Engineering, Battery and Hydrogen Technology, Biology, Biotechnology, Teacher Education, Technology-Oriented Management and Transportation Engineering. Each course remains a parent qualification and specialisations are captured within the course entry rather than being falsely presented as separate degrees. Engineering specialities and the two-subject teacher education options are merged with their parent degree routes, while the standalone bachelor’s and master’s qualifications remain separate.
Admissions are handled by the program. Applicants apply via the TUconnect portal with the international qualification route and program specific deadline listed by the university; master's programs may require additional faculty assessment. Before they submit, applicants have to check the teaching language, the entry semester, subject prerequisites, the selection procedure and the document route. International school or university qualifications may have to be externally assessed, translated and certified and for some countries, accompanied by APS documentation and/or further evidence of academic equivalence. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience or interviews. Admission to doctoral studies is distinct from admission to bachelor or master studies and requires, typically, a viable research proposal, eligible supervision, and formal acceptance by the responsible faculty.
No tuition is charged for the regular degree programs. For winter semester 2026/27, the semester contribution amounts to €472.50, comprising student services, student representation, the Germany ticket and the Lower Saxony administrative fee. These institutional charges do not include rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs and personal travel. If provided for by the relevant law or program regulation, special tuition may be provided for continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree, or long-term study formats. Funding (e.g. BAföG for eligible students, Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards) is available, but each funding application is evaluated separately from admission.
Career preparation is indicative of the subject mix of the university and is not a placement scheme with guarantyd positions. Volkswagen, Siemens Mobility, aerospace companies, national labs, engineering consulting firms, construction, energy, software and research institutes create a strong regional ecosystem. Students can boost their professional readiness through internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility and an externally partnered thesis. TU Braunschweig is a great match if you are interested in mobility, aerospace, engineering, sustainable energy, pharmacy or research intensive technical education.
