Theological University Elstal (TH Elstal) Summary
Theologische Hochschule Elstal is a theological university in Wustermark-Elstal, in Brandenburg. Its history is linked to the Baptist seminary founded in 1880; the present state-recognized university at the Elstal education center offers accredited degrees in theology and diaconia in the German Baptist federation. Its academic profile today is in Protestant theology, biblical studies, church history, systematic theology, practical theology, mission, ministry, ethics and community practice. The Elstal residential campus west of Berlin provides classrooms, a theological library, affordable housing, worship, community life, and proximity to churches, mission bodies, diaconal organisations, and Berlin research resources.
The course portfolio represented in this master file consists of 1 UG entry and 3 PG entries. Protestant Theology is an undergraduate course. The postgraduate courses are Protestant Theology, Diaconia and Social Theology, Theology and Innovative Church Development. Each entry retains the official parent qualification, and nests pathways or concentrations within the specialisation field, rather than blowing out these to separate degrees. In cases where the institution does not independently award doctorates this record only describes credible cooperative doctoral research routes and that formal admission is to a doctoral-awarding partner.
The accredited bachelor’s and consecutive master’s programs normally start in the winter with an institutional application deadline of July 15; transfers may be accepted to start in the summer. Before applying, check the exact intake, teaching language, academic requirements, selection process and document route on the current program page. International certificates may require certified translations, proof of equivalency, APS documentation for relevant countries or other language proof. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, credit details, professional experience, a portfolio, a motivation statement or an interview. Acceptance for doctoral studies is separate from bachelor’s and master’s enrolment and is subject to a suitable topic, supervision, funding and formal acceptance by the awarding university.
The current guidance is €360 per semester for full-time study and €208.80 for the Deutschlandticket in winter 2025/26 and summer 2026. Rooms on campus are around €250 per month.
