The University of Protestant Church Music Bayreuth is a Protestant Church Music University in Bayreuth, Bavaria. Founded on 1 October 2000, it was the successor of the Protestant church-music school of Bavaria founded in 1948, and is the only state university in Bavaria maintained by a church. The central Bayreuth site combines teaching rooms, organs, practice facilities, ensembles and easy access to churches and the city’s internationally visible music culture.
This master file is the course portfolio which contains 4 undergraduate entries and 4 postgraduate entries. Undergraduate study: Protestant Church Music, Choral Conducting, Artistic Organ Playing, Piano Pedagogy. Postgraduate Studies: Protestant Church Music, Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy, Music Direction, Artistic Organ Playing. All entries retain the official parent qualification and identify pathways or concentrations within the area of specialisation rather than inflate them into separate, inflated degrees. Where the institution does not award doctorates independently, the description of the record is restricted to credible collaborative doctoral research routes and formal admission is with a doctoral-awarding partner.
Applications for summer and winter entry are accepted until the published deadlines and followed by an artistic entrance examination in the principal subject and musicianship (specific to the course). Before applying, applicants must check the exact intake, language of instruction, academic requirements, selection process and document path on the current program page. International certificates may require certified translations, proof of equivalency, APS documentation for relevant countries or other language proof. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, credit details, professional experience, a portfolio, a motivation statement or an interview. Doctoral admission is separate from bachelor's and master's enrolment and is contingent on a suitable topic, supervision, funding, and formal acceptance by the awarding university.
Instead of tuition fees the university charges a nominal annual student contribution for regular degrees. Applicants are advised to check the latest rates and any additional student-service and examination fees. the tuition fees quoted generally exclude: housing, food, health insurance, residence formalities, private travel and optional project costs. Applicants will be subject to the live fee schedule and signed study contract. Funding may come from BAföG (for eligible students), the Deutschlandstipendium (if available), DAAD or Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, employer sponsorship, education funds or paid research and student-assistant work. Each award is evaluated independently of admission.
