Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences Summary
Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (German: Hochschule Darmstadt) is a public university of applied sciences in Darmstadt, Hesse. Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences is one of the larger universities of applied sciences in Germany and combines engineering, computer science, media, design, business, social work, architecture and applied science, across Darmstadt and Dieburg. Its institutional development includes: 1876 — a predecessor technical training institution opened in Darmstadt 1906 — engineering and construction education expanded in the city Today, the academic profile is determined by engineering, computer science, cyber security, media, design, architecture, business, logistics, social work, mathematics, biotechnologies and environmental technology. Location matters, being a major science and technology hub in the Rhine-Main region for space, cyber security, software, engineering, research, design, media and international business organisations.
This master file is the course portfolio, consisting of 35 undergraduate entries and 30 postgraduate entries with subject combinations consolidated under the parent degrees as appropriate. Undergraduate: Architecture, Animation and Game, Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology, Business Administration, Business Information Systems. Later: Transportation Engineering, User Experience Design, Cybersecurity. Graduate programs include Architecture, Animation and Game Direction, Applied Mathematics, Business Administration, Business Information Systems, Chemical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, User Experience Design and Cybersecurity. The parent qualification is each course and specialisations are recorded in the course entry, not misrepresented as separate degrees. The dataset reflects qualifications without duplicating each delivery model, merging variants of cooperative, dual, part-time and specialisation under their main academic programs.
Admission is handled at the program level. Normally applicants who have their certificates from abroad send their documents via uni-assist. Afterward the academic departments check the requirements specific to the program, e.g. portfolio, aptitude test or previous courses, if applicable. Before applying, applicants have to check the language of instruction, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route. International school or university qualifications may have to be externally assessed, translated and certified and for some countries, accompanied by APS documentation and/or further evidence of academic equivalence. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience or interviews. Admission to a doctoral program is separate from admission to a bachelor’s or master’s program and normally requires a viable research proposal, qualified supervision and formal admission by the responsible faculty.
Regular degree programs have no general tuition. The semester fee for the winter semester 2026/27 is € 401. This includes contributions to student services, administration, the Germany ticket, culture, student-body and bicycle-system. These institutional fees do not include rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, or project costs, or personal travel. If provided for by the relevant law or program regulation, special tuition may be provided for continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree, or long-term study formats. Funding (e.g. BAföG for eligible students, Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards) is available, but each funding application is evaluated separately from admission.
Career preparation reflects the subject mix of the university, not a guarantyd placement scheme. In the Rhine-Main region, companies from the software, space, engineering, media, finance, logistics, healthcare, public, social-service and creative sectors are open to internships, projects and graduate employment. Students can further professional readiness through internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility, and an externally partnered thesis. h_da is a good choice for students who are looking for practice-oriented study in technology, media, design, business or social sciences in one of Germany’s leading science regions.
