HFT Stuttgart – University of Applied Sciences Summary
HFT Stuttgart – University of Applied Sciences is a public university of applied sciences located in Stuttgart, Baden-Wuerttemberg. HFT Stuttgart is an applied university of architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, surveying, computer science, mathematics, business and sustainable building technologies. Its institutional development includes 1832 — a predecessor winter building school was founded in Stuttgart. As Württemberg modernised, construction and surveying education evolved. Today its academic profile is made up of architecture, interior design, civil engineering, climate engineering, infrastructure, surveying, geoinformatics, computer science, AI, mathematics, business psychology and urban planning. The location is important, as the central location of Stuttgart connects students to architecture and planning offices, construction groups, automotive and technology companies, software firms, public agencies, utilities and consultancies. The course portfolio in this master file has 15 undergraduate entries and 18 postgraduate entries. Where applicable, subject combinations have been grouped together under their parent degrees. Undergraduate examples are Architecture, Interior-Architectural Design, Civil Engineering, Climate Engineering, Infrastructure Management, Surveying and Geoinformatics, later entries are Digitalisation and Information Management, Smart Building Engineering, Urban Planning. Postgraduate studies include Architecture, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Infrastructure Management, Surveying to Digital Construction, Business Psychology, Artificial Intelligence. Each course is still a parent qualification, with specialisations listed under the course entry, rather than being falsely represented as separate degrees. The official qualifications group grouped construction, infrastructure and digital concentrations more closely, but separate tuition fees still distinguish independent further master’s programs. Admission is managed at the program level. The application process is via the HFT application portal and any necessary Hochschulstart or international credential path; portfolios, pre-study internships, academic credit profiles and language evidence are specific to individual programs. Applicants should check the teaching language, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route before submission. International School or University Qualifications External evaluation, certified translations, APS documentation where applicable or other proof of academic equivalence may be required. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience or interviews. Admission to the doctoral program is separate from admission to the bachelor's or master's program and normally requires a feasible research proposal, eligible supervision and formal admission by the responsible faculty. EU and EEA students don’t usually pay tuition fees for normal degrees. Most non-EU students pay a fee of €1,500 per semester plus a contribution of €191.50 for winter 2026/27, but continuing programs like Smart City Solutions and International Project Management have separate tuition fees. These institutional fees do not include rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs or personal travels. If provided for by the relevant law or program regulation, special tuition may be provided for continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree, or long-term study formats. Funding (e.g. BAföG for eligible students, Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards) is available, but each funding application is evaluated separately from admission. Career preparation is a reflection of the University’s subject mix and is not a guarantyd placement scheme. Applied projects and recruitment are supported by architecture practices, construction companies, surveying offices, city administrations, software teams, consultancies, utilities and industrial employers. Students can also benefit from internship, applied projects, research assistantship, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility and an externally partnered thesis to prepare them professionally. HFT Stuttgart is particularly suitable for applicants interested in the sustainable, digital and spatial transformation of buildings, infrastructure and cities.
