ASBM UNIVERSITY Summary
ASBM University is a state private university in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, that grew out of the Asian School of Business Management. Its institutional legacy began in 2006, when the business school was founded under the leadership of Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak. After roughly a decade and a half of management education and quality-focused development, the Government of Odisha granted university status through the ASBM University, Odisha Act, 2019, Odisha Act 4 of 2019. The Governor assented to the Act on September 7, 2019; it was published in the Odisha Gazette on September 12; and the university’s establishment was formally notified on September 26, 2019. The university is located at Shiksha Vihar, Bhola, Chandaka, in Bhubaneswar. While management remains central to its identity, ASBM University now offers programmes across a wider higher-education portfolio, including business analytics, logistics and supply chain, fashion management, commerce, communication and digital media, and other contemporary areas. Its teaching approach is designed around industry relevance, professional skills, research and holistic education. ASBM’s pre-university legacy includes national and international quality recognitions in management education. The former business school’s programmes received accreditation through bodies including the National Board of Accreditation, while international recognition included ACBSP and SAQS. The university continues to position research and development as an institutional priority and maintains systems for research projects, publications, innovation and industry engagement. Its evolution from a focused business school into a multidisciplinary university is the defining feature of ASBM’s history. That transition allows it to retain a strong management-education identity while adding newer academic fields suited to a changing professional economy. University status enabled ASBM to move beyond its original management-school identity while retaining business education as a core strength. Its Bhubaneswar-area campus supports research, executive interaction, student activities and professional development, drawing on quality systems and industry relationships developed during its pre-university phase.
