ANDHRA KESARI UNIVERSITY Summary
Andhra Kesari University is a state university in Ongole, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. It was created by upgrading the Acharya Nagarjuna University Post-Graduation Centre at Ongole, a centre operating since 1993. The university takes its name from Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, the leader popularly known as Andhra Kesari. The Andhra Pradesh Government brought the university into effect on 11 January 2022 under the statutory framework created by Andhra Pradesh legislation. This transition converted an established postgraduate centre into an independent degree-awarding university with responsibility for developing higher education in Prakasam district. The university inherited academic departments, library resources and institutional experience from the postgraduate centre, providing a foundation for its early operations. Its University College offers programmes in humanities, social sciences, commerce, management, mathematical sciences, statistics, education and physical education, with additional science and language programmes introduced during the university’s development. Research supervision and doctoral activity are supported through eligible faculty in university departments. The library itself illustrates institutional continuity: the collection of the former Acharya Nagarjuna University centre became the core of the new university library when the upgrade took effect. The university’s location in Ongole places it within a district where access to postgraduate and research education has historically been an important development concern. Its creation therefore represents both administrative separation from Acharya Nagarjuna University and expansion of an existing regional higher-education base. Founder-level appointments in 2023 helped consolidate the university’s governance after its statutory establishment. Andhra Kesari University remains a relatively young university, so its institutional identity is closely connected to building departments, research systems, student services and administrative structures from the assets of the earlier postgraduate centre. Its defining feature is this continuity: rather than beginning without an academic base, it developed from a functioning regional centre and now operates as an independent public university serving Prakasam district.
