Krea University is a state private university at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, established in 2018 under the Andhra Pradesh Private Universities framework. Its sponsoring body, the IFMR Society, gives the university an institutional legacy reaching back to 1970. IFMR was created as a not-for-profit organization focused on research, training and education in economics, finance and management, with support from major Indian financial and industrial institutions. That older research-and-management tradition became a major component of Krea University's foundation. Krea developed a distinctive multidisciplinary model known as Interwoven Learning. The approach emphasizes connections across disciplines, critical thinking, communication, creativity, ethics, real-world application and engagement with questions that do not fit neatly within a single subject. The university's academic structure includes the School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences and the IFMR Graduate School of Business, bringing liberal education, sciences, economics, management and research into one institutional framework. The university was enacted by the Andhra Pradesh Legislature through the 2018 amendment to the state's private-university law, with the gazette notification published on 30 April 2018. IFMR was subsequently reconstituted as IFMR Graduate School of Business within Krea, preserving a decades-long record in finance and management research while placing it inside a broader university. Krea's Sri City campus, research partnerships and interdisciplinary pedagogy position it as a relatively new university built on an older research institution rather than a wholly new academic organization. The Sri City setting places the university within a major industrial and business corridor spanning Andhra Pradesh and the Chennai region.
