AGRICULTURE UNIVERSITY, KOTA Summary
Agriculture University, Kota is a state agricultural university serving south-eastern and eastern Rajasthan. It was established on 14 September 2013 under Rajasthan Act No. 22 of 2013 through reorganization of the state agricultural-university system. The university became fully functional after appointment of its Vice-Chancellor on 23 September 2013. Its jurisdiction covers Kota, Baran, Bundi, Jhalawar, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts, a region with agricultural conditions ranging from rainfed production to canal-irrigated farming. The university was created to give this region a dedicated institution for agricultural education, research and extension rather than relying on universities headquartered elsewhere in Rajasthan. Its structure brings together constituent colleges, agricultural research stations, research substations, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and farms located across the six districts. The College of Horticulture and Forestry at Jhalawar, established before the university itself, became a constituent college when Agriculture University, Kota was formed. Other teaching units have expanded the university’s coverage of agriculture and allied disciplines. Research infrastructure includes stations and farms dealing with crops, seed production, horticulture, soil and water management and other regional production issues. The Mechanized Agriculture Farm, established in 1978, became part of the university’s research system after the 2013 reorganization. Agricultural research and extension are designed around the Hadoti and adjoining regions, where irrigation, rainfall patterns, forest resources and crop systems differ significantly from western Rajasthan. Krishi Vigyan Kendras provide an important field connection by conducting farmer training, demonstrations and technology transfer. The university’s headquarters at Borkhera in Kota coordinates this distributed network. Agriculture University, Kota is consequently more than a single-campus teaching institution: it is a regional agricultural system linking degree education with field research, seed and farm operations, and extension work across six districts. Its institutional purpose is closely tied to improving region-specific agricultural knowledge, skilled human resources and practical technologies for farming communities.
