Kota University, Kota Summary
The University of Kota is a state public university created by the Government of Rajasthan to strengthen higher education in the southeastern part of the state. It was established through the University of Kota Act, 2003, notified in June 2003, and formally came into existence in September of that year. The university was included in the University Grants Commission's list of recognized universities in February 2004 and later became eligible for central assistance under Section 12(B) in 2012. From its headquarters in Kota, the university combines direct teaching and research with a large affiliating responsibility. Its territorial network extends across several districts of Rajasthan, and the university has supervised a substantial number of affiliated colleges and students. Academic work spans science, social science, commerce, management, education, law, humanities and interdisciplinary areas. The institution's location in Kota gives it a distinctive context: the city is widely known as a major educational center, while the wider Hadoti region includes urban, agricultural and semi-rural communities with varied higher-education needs. The university's role therefore includes postgraduate teaching, research supervision, college affiliation, examinations, curriculum development and quality assurance. Over time it has developed academic departments, research facilities, student services and institutional systems that support both campus learners and the much larger affiliated-college population. Recognition under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC framework has supported its place within the national public-university system. The University of Kota's development since 2003 reflects Rajasthan's broader expansion of state universities beyond older metropolitan centers. By combining a teaching campus with regional affiliation functions, it serves as both an academic institution in its own right and an administrative anchor for higher education across the Hadoti region and neighboring districts. The university also supports doctoral research, academic conferences and interdisciplinary work through its campus departments and research centers.
