Awadesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa Summary
Awadhesh Pratap Singh University is a public state university in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, founded on 20 July 1968 and named in honour of Captain Awadhesh Pratap Singh, a freedom fighter and public leader associated with the Vindhya region. The university emerged from a long regional effort to expand higher education in eastern Madhya Pradesh. Its official history connects the institution’s creation with earlier educational initiatives promoted by Captain Awadhesh Pratap Singh and with the state government’s decision in 1967 to revive the proposal for a university at Rewa. The institution received recognition from the University Grants Commission in February 1972. It later became a member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities, reflecting its place within wider higher-education networks. APS University combines teaching through university departments with affiliation responsibilities for colleges spread across districts in the Rewa and Shahdol divisions. Its academic portfolio includes humanities, social sciences, science, management, computer science, environmental biology, business economics, mathematical sciences and other professional and interdisciplinary fields. The university also operates distance-learning activity, extending access beyond students who attend regular campus programmes. The campus at Rewa serves as the administrative and postgraduate teaching centre while affiliated colleges provide undergraduate and postgraduate education across a broad regional area. Its development has therefore been closely tied to the educational needs of the Vindhya region rather than to a single metropolitan constituency. The university’s academic identity combines conventional disciplines, professional programmes and regional research with a large public-university examination and affiliation system. For students, APS University offers the institutional advantages of a long-established state university: decades of academic development, a broad subject base, postgraduate and research opportunities, and a regional college network that connects the Rewa campus with higher education across northeastern Madhya Pradesh. Regional access remains central.
