Program-based admission. Depending on the program and applicant group, applicants apply via the campus portal Hochschulstart, uni-assist or another specified route. Admission restrictions, English-taught master’s programs, spatial-planning requirements, evidence of aptitude, subject-credit reviews and international credentials are programme-specific procedures. Applicants should check the teaching language, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route before submitting. International School or University Qualifications External evaluation, certified translations, APS documentation where applicable or other proof of academic equivalence may be required. Master’s committees may ask for module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience, or interviews. There is no general tuition for normal degree study. For the winter semester 2026/27, the semester contribution is €339.70. This amount covers €242.70 for student-body and mobility elements and €97 for the Studierendenwerk Dortmund. These institutional charges do not include rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs or personal travel. Special tuition may be applied in the case of continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree or long-term study formats, if provided for by the relevant law or program regulation. Funding may include BAföG for eligible students, the Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards, but each funding application is assessed independently from admission.
Career preparation is indicative of the university's subject mix and not a guarantyd placement scheme. Research placements, practical modules, internships, career advising, international mobility, entrepreneurship support, employer events and externally connected theses help students to turn academic work into professional evidence. Internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility and an externally partnered thesis all prepare students for the profession.
