Chemnitz University of Technology is a public technical university located in Chemnitz, Saxony. TU Chemnitz has grown from a royal trade school into a research-oriented technical university with a compact profile in engineering, computing, natural sciences, business, humanities and behavioural sciences. Chemnitz was founded as the Royal Mercantile College in 1836 and grew as an institution. 19th century — the technical education sector grew as Saxony's industries expanded. Admission is managed by the program. Applications via TU Chemnitz portal, and where indicated, uni-assist. Qualification, language, APS and deadline requirements are set by program pages. Before applying, applicants are requested to check the language of instruction, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route. International school or university qualifications may have to be externally assessed, translated and certified and for some countries, accompanied by APS documentation and/or further evidence of academic equivalence. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience or interviews. Entry to a doctorate is separate from admission to a bachelors or masters degree and usually requires a viable research proposal, eligible supervision and formal acceptance by the responsible faculty.
As a general rule, regular first degree research students are not charged tuition fees. The semester contribution for the winter semester 2026/27 is €341.40 including student services, student representation, culture ticket and the Germany semester ticket. Long-term study fees may be payable. These institutional fees do not include rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs or personal travel. If provided for by the relevant law or program regulation, special tuition may be provided for continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree, or long-term study formats. Funding (e.g. BAföG for eligible students, Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards) is available, but each funding application is evaluated separately from admission.
