The master file contains 37 undergraduate and 46 postgraduate entries in the course portfolio. Where applicable, subject combinations have been grouped under their parent degrees. Examples at undergraduate level include Applied Computer Science, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Archaeological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry; later entries include Sport Science, Theatre and Performance Studies, Theology. Postgraduate study includes Accounting and Auditing, Applied Computer Science, Applied IT Security, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Art History, Biochemistry to Stem Cell Biology, Subsurface Engineering, Teacher Education. Each course still counts as a parent qualification, with specialisations noted on the course entry instead of being wrongly presented as separate degrees. RUB provides one-subject, two-subject, state-examination and teacher-education courses. This file merges recurring subject combinations and lists each academic discipline once at each applicable level.
Admission is handled at the program level. International applicants apply electronically via the RUB portal within the published periods. This applies to all applicants for bachelor and state examination study programs, even if the selected program is admission-free. Please check the language of instruction, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route before submitting the application. International school or university qualifications may have to be externally assessed, translated and certified and for some countries, accompanied by APS documentation and/or further evidence of academic equivalence. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience or interviews. Admission to doctoral studies is separate from admission to bachelor or master studies and requires, as a rule, a viable research proposal, the availability of eligible supervision and formal acceptance by the relevant faculty.
There is no general tuition for regular degrees in RUB. Students pay a social contribution of about €350 per semester which includes student services, student representation and the Germany semester ticket. The institutional fees do not cover rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs or personal travel. If provided for by the relevant law or program regulation, special tuition may be provided for continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree, or long-term study formats. Funding (e.g. BAföG for eligible students, Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards) is available, but each funding application is evaluated separately from admission.
Career preparation reflects the university’s mix of subjects, not a guarantyd placement scheme. Academic education is linked with practical and research experience through the Research Alliance Ruhr of RUB, university hospitals, science parks, regional employers, entrepreneurship services and important industry networks. Internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility and an externally partnered thesis can all help students become more professionally ready. Students looking for a large university campus will find RUB especially relevant, with its strengths in engineering, cybersecurity, materials, medicine, humanities and metropolitan career access.
