DADA LAKHMI CHAND STATE UNIVERSITY OF PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS Summary
Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts in Rohtak is a specialized Haryana state university devoted to creative, design, media and built-environment disciplines. The university came into existence on 5 August 2014 through Haryana Act No. 24 of 2014 by integrating four government technical institutions: the State Institute of Fine Arts, State Institute of Design, State Institute of Film and Television, and State Institute of Urban Planning and Architecture. This integrated structure remains central to the university’s academic identity. Its principal faculties cover Visual Arts, Design, Film and Television, and Planning and Architecture, allowing students to work across studio practice, visual communication, product and fashion design, filmmaking, acting, cinematography, architecture and related fields. The campus in Sector 6, Rohtak extends over approximately 36 acres and was planned specifically for practice-intensive creative education. Studio work, workshops, laboratories, production exercises, exhibitions and project-based learning therefore form a major part of the academic environment. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, diploma and certificate-level study, with doctoral options including Architecture, Computer Science, Textile Design, Applied Art and Painting. Its film and television programmes include specialized areas such as direction, cinematography, acting, audiography and editing, while design programmes include product, fashion, lifestyle and textile design. Planning and architecture education combines construction technology, aesthetics, structural systems and design studio work. The university has also proposed a regional centre at Aterna in Sonipat district with humanities, social sciences, cultural and folk-media studies. By bringing several creative disciplines into one public university, DLCSUPVA provides an institutional setting where visual art, design, performance, screen media and architecture can interact rather than operate as isolated professional schools. Its integrated structure brings visual arts, design, film and television, architecture and urban planning into one university, allowing creative practice and professional studio education to develop within a shared academic environment.
