Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Summary
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) is a public teaching and affiliating university established by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in 1998. It was created under the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998, read with an amendment in 1999, and is recognized by the University Grants Commission under Section 12B of the UGC Act. The university was designed with a strong professional-education orientation, covering areas such as engineering, technology, management, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, education and law alongside research and extension activity. Its principal campus is in Sector 16-C, Dwarka, where the university developed major academic, administrative, library, hostel and student-service infrastructure. The University Information Resource Centre shifted from the earlier Kashmere Gate campus to Dwarka during 2010–11, marking an important stage in the university's physical development. GGSIPU also operates an East Delhi Campus at Surajmal Vihar, which houses the University School of Automation and Robotics, University School of Design and Innovation, University School of Mass Communication and University School of Architecture and Planning. This two-campus structure supports a mix of established professional fields and newer technology, design and creative disciplines. As an affiliating university, GGSIPU also provides an academic framework for a large network of institutions offering professional programmes across Delhi. The university's quality profile includes NAAC accreditation at A++ with a CGPA of 3.56, valid for seven years from 14 February 2023. Research support is reinforced through doctoral work, digital library resources, intellectual-property activity, policy research and specialised university centres. The library system has expanded substantially in physical and electronic resources and supports remote access to scholarly databases. Student life extends beyond classrooms through hostels, clubs, cultural activities, technical events and welfare services at the Dwarka and East Delhi campuses. Its structure connects university departments with a large professional-college ecosystem across the National Capital Territory.
