JSPM University is a state private university in Pune, Maharashtra, established under the JSPM University Pune Act, 2022, enacted as Maharashtra Act No. IV of 2023. The sponsoring organization, Jayawant Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, developed a substantial education network before the university was formed, with roots in the late 1990s and professional institutions in engineering, pharmacy, management and related fields. The university became operational for its first academic phase in 2023. The university operates from Wagholi on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road and is designed as a multidisciplinary institution. Its academic structure covers engineering and technology, science, pharmaceutical sciences, business and commerce, liberal arts, education, design, law and interdisciplinary studies. Research, innovation and industry collaboration are emphasized alongside undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education. JSPM University's formation represents the transition of a large Pune education network into a statutory university framework. The state Act was issued in January 2023, followed by operationalization and UGC listing during the same year. This gave the institution authority to organize programmes through its own schools, academic councils and examination systems rather than operate solely through affiliated-college structures. The university's early development has focused on creating governance bodies, curriculum structures, research systems and interdisciplinary schools while drawing on facilities and academic experience accumulated by the sponsoring mandal. Its history therefore combines a pre-university education-network legacy with a clearly documented statutory university launch in 2023. Its sponsoring organization brought decades of experience in professional education into the new university structure. The university's Wagholi campus is part of the broader Pune metropolitan higher-education corridor. The university entered its operational phase in 2023. 6 January 2023 — The JSPM University Act framework was issued under Maharashtra Act No. IV of 2023. Academic launch — Schools in engineering, science, pharmacy, management and liberal studies began operating within the university structure.
