DELHI PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES AND RESEARCH UNIVERSITY Summary
Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University is a specialized state university in Pushp Vihar, New Delhi, focused on pharmaceutical, clinical, allied-health and healthcare-management education. Its institutional lineage begins in 1964 with a Department of Pharmacy at Kashmiri Gate Polytechnic offering the Diploma in Pharmacy. In 1972, the unit became a College of Pharmacy and shifted to the Pusa Polytechnic complex while introducing degree-level pharmacy education. It moved to the present Pushp Vihar campus in 1979. In July 2004, the institution was upgraded as the Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, or DIPSAR, under the Government of NCT of Delhi. The Delhi Legislature then enacted the law creating Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University on 11 September 2008, and the university became operational in 2015 with DIPSAR as a constituent institution. DPSRU describes itself as India’s first university dedicated specifically to pharmaceutical sciences. Its programmes now extend beyond traditional pharmacy into physiotherapy, public health, hospital and healthcare management, clinical research, medical laboratory technology, sports science, biomedical science and emerging areas such as artificial intelligence in precision medicine. Research infrastructure has expanded through incubation, BioNEST, advanced formulation, dermal-technology and precision-medicine facilities. The university is recognized under UGC provisions and received NAAC Grade A accreditation in 2024. Its professional orientation combines laboratory science with regulatory, clinical, managerial and technology-transfer perspectives. The Pushp Vihar campus supports pharmacy laboratories, allied-health teaching and research, while land has also been allotted for a second campus at Narela. DPSRU’s distinguishing feature is the continuity of more than six decades of pharmacy education with a modern university model that integrates drug science, healthcare delivery, entrepreneurship and translational research. Its specialist model combines pharmaceutical sciences with physiotherapy, allied health, public health, management and clinical research, while dedicated innovation and incubation facilities support translation from laboratory work to healthcare applications.
