BIKANER TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY Summary
Bikaner Technical University (BTU) is a state technical university in Rajasthan established under the Bikaner Technical University Act, 2017, Act No. 29 of 2017. The university is located in the RIICO Karni Industrial Area in Bikaner and developed around the campus of the University College of Engineering and Technology. One of the principal reasons for creating BTU was to divide the growing academic and administrative workload of Rajasthan Technical University and provide a dedicated technical-university structure for western Rajasthan. BTU exercises academic and administrative control over technical institutions across a wide regional jurisdiction. Official university information identifies institutions from the Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions and from districts in the Ajmer and Jaipur divisions within its system. The university coordinates affiliation, curricula, examinations, research regulations and academic standards for government and private technical colleges. Its programme framework includes B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Design, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, BBA, BCA and Ph.D. study, depending on the university campus or affiliated institution. The university has also introduced programmes in newer engineering and technology fields in response to changing industry requirements. Its constituent and affiliated network includes government engineering colleges as well as private professional institutions. University College of Engineering and Technology became a constituent college of BTU in 2018. This gave the university a direct teaching base in addition to its broader affiliating role. BTU has subsequently developed academic councils, regulations for postgraduate and doctoral programmes, research activity and systems for college affiliation and inspection. Its institutional role is therefore both regional and technical: it coordinates a large part of Rajasthan’s professional education while operating its own university-level teaching and research activities in Bikaner. BTU’s regional design gives western Rajasthan a technical university closer to its engineering and management institutions, reducing dependence on a single statewide centre located in Kota, Rajasthan.
