Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences Summary
Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak is Haryana’s state health-sciences university, established in 2008 to coordinate education, training, research and affiliation across major health disciplines. Created under Haryana Act No. 26 of 2008, the university was designed both to administer the existing Pt. B. D. Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak and to provide a common academic framework for health-professional institutions across the state. Its remit includes modern medicine as well as dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, Ayurveda and other health-related fields represented in its affiliated-college system. The Rohtak academic complex is a major centre for medical education, specialist training, clinical services and research, allowing students in clinical disciplines to learn within an environment linked directly to hospitals and patient care. University responsibilities extend beyond teaching: it regulates examinations, affiliation, academic standards and professional training across a diverse network of health colleges and institutes. The institution also supports postgraduate and super-specialty education, research activity and continuing professional development. Because the university grew around an established medical-institution complex rather than starting without infrastructure, it inherited a substantial base of clinical departments, laboratories, hospitals and teaching facilities. Its statutory objectives place emphasis on uniform educational standards, socially relevant health research, interdisciplinary study and the use of information technology. The university therefore functions as both a specialized teaching institution and a statewide coordinating authority for health-sciences education in Haryana. The university is identified in its own materials as the first university of health sciences established in Haryana. Affiliated institutions are organized across categories such as medical, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy and Ayurvedic education. The combination of university governance and clinical institutions gives its academic system a strongly practice-oriented character. Research and teaching remain closely connected within this framework. Its public mission remains closely tied to regional educational development.
