Admission control at program level. Applicants apply through the CAT portal and the route listed for the program. Restricted programs follow the selection deadlines. For international credentials, a preliminary review document is generally required through uni-assist. For work-integrated degrees, an employer agreement is required. Applicants must check the teaching language, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route before submitting. International School or University Qualifications External evaluation, certified translations, APS documentation where applicable or other proof of academic equivalence may be required. Master’s committees may ask for module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience, or interviews. Admission to a PhD differs from admission to a bachelor or master degree in that it normally requires a well founded research proposal, suitable supervision and formal acceptance by the relevant faculty.
There is no general tuition for regular study. For winter 2026/27, the standard contributions in Bielefeld are €356.55, in Minden €354.80 and in Gütersloh €248.80. In some practice-integrated formats, program-specific media or material fees are additionally charged. These institutional charges do not cover rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs, or personal travel. Special tuition may be applied in the case of continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree or long-term study formats, if provided for by the relevant law or program regulation. Funding may include BAföG for eligible students, the Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards, but each funding application is assessed independently from admission.
Career preparation mirrors the subject mix of the university and is not a guarantyd placement scheme. Practice-integrated study, projects and thesis work are supported by East Westphalian manufacturers, healthcare organisations, construction companies, logistics companies, social agencies and design employers. Students may improve their readiness for professional life through internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility and an externally partnered thesis. HSBI is appropriate for students interested in applied teaching, close professional links, flexible study formats and research-informed practice.
