Munich University of Applied Sciences Summary
Munich University of Applied Sciences is a public university of applied sciences in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in Germany as Hochschule München, HM is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany and coordinates teaching in the fields of technology, business, social sciences and design. Its institutional history includes 1971 — seven Munich predecessor institutions merged into a new university of applied sciences. 1970s — first breadth to the academics from engineering, business, social and design schools. Today the university has a profile in engineering, computing, natural sciences, business, design, tourism and social work. The location is important: Munich combines global technology, mobility, media, design, finance and start-up industries with a large academic and cultural environment.
The study portfolio currently presented in this file comprises 31 undergraduate and 22 postgraduate entries. Undergraduates can select from Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geoinformatics and Satellite Positioning, Business Administration, International Business Administration, International Management and Digital Engineering, Digital Engineering, and Renewable Energy Systems. At postgraduate level, examples include Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Business Administration, Digital Technology Management, and Communication of Science, Technology and Innovation, Stochastic Engineering, Micro- and Nanotechnology. These program names are maintained at the course level; concentrations and academic themes are listed separately as specialisations. HM offers a broad applied portfolio in fourteen faculties with dual, part-time, continuing and selected English-taught routes.
Applicants must begin with the live program page as language, semester start, academic prerequisites and selection rules vary. Applications are made through the HM application portal and the route assigned to their qualification. Winter applications generally close mid-July, with individual programs having their own windows. International qualifications may have a specific credential review path and master’s applicants may be asked to provide descriptions of the modules so the relevant committee can compare prior coursework to the chosen degree. Admission is not the same as enrolment: an admitted applicant still needs to complete the document, health-insurance and payment steps mentioned in the offer. Doctoral study is pursued in conjunction with a faculty, graduate school or cooperative plan and requires proper project and academic supervision.
HM does not charge tuition fees for regular study and publishes a €97 Studierendenwerk contribution for winter 2026/27. Beginning with that semester, some English-taught programs can impose a fee of €700 per semester on non-EU students, with exceptions set by the university . Course-specific exceptions may still be possible, especially for professional, continuing-education, joint, or cooperative study; Students should, therefore, budget for costs in addition to the published institutional charge for housing, insurance, learning materials, travel, and any program-specific costs. The funding can be provided through BAföG if you meet the requirements, the Deutschlandstipendium, foundations, mobility grants, project employment or doctoral support. However, every funding has its own application and selection process.
The university’s career preparation is reflective of the academic profile of the university and is not a placement assurance. Munich’s technology, automotive, aerospace, digital, creative, tourism and social-service companies provide a broad spectrum of applied-project and internship opportunities. Improved student outcomes can result from internships, practical projects, research assistantships, employer events, entrepreneurship support, international experience, and early use of career counselling. HM is a great choice for students who want a large applied university in one of Europe’s most diverse technology and creative economies. The most competitive applicants will compare curriculum, language of instruction, admission requirements, and location to their own academic background before applying.
