UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Summary
The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is a state private university in Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya, established under the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya Act No. 6 of 2008. The university is promoted by the Education Research & Development Foundation and began academic programs in 2011 after the statutory groundwork created by the 2008 state act. USTM is located at Techno City in the Baridua area near the Assam-Meghalaya border, only a short distance from the Guwahati metropolitan region. This location gives the institution unusual access to students, employers and research networks across both Meghalaya and Assam. The university offers a broad portfolio across science, technology, business, humanities, social sciences, law, health-related fields and other disciplines, supported by more than thirty departments. Research, innovation and community engagement form major elements of the university's institutional mission. USTM is recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the national regulator Act, placing it within the national framework for recognized universities and eligible research support. The institution received national accreditor accreditation with an A grade in its first assessment cycle in 2021, a major quality milestone during its first decade of academic operations. The university's green hill campus includes laboratories, library resources, hostels, sports and facilities for a large residential academic community. USTM has positioned itself as a science-and-technology-led university serving the wider Northeast while maintaining a multidisciplinary rather than narrowly technical portfolio. As a state private university, UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY operates within the statutory and quality frameworks applicable to higher education in Meghalaya. Research, seminars, projects and co-curricular activities provide additional settings for students to apply classroom learning. Professional programs remain subject to the approvals and standards of the relevant statutory or regulatory bodies where required. Library, digital-learning and student-support systems complement the university's teaching and practical-learning environment.
