Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut Summary
Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU) is a state private university in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, established in 2008 and located at Subhartipuram on the Delhi-Haridwar bypass. The university developed from the Subharti education, healthcare and social-service movement created by the Mahayana Theravada Vajrayana Buddhist Religious and Charitable Trust. The educational journey began with Subharti Dental College in 1996, initially operating from Lokpriya Hospital before moving to the developing Subhartipuram campus. Additional institutions in medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, engineering, law and other fields were established as the campus expanded. In September 2008 the Uttar Pradesh legislature created Swami Vivekanand Subharti University through U.P. Act No. 29 of 2008. The university is recognized under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act. SVSU now encompasses a broad portfolio spanning medicine, dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy, engineering, law, management, journalism, fine arts, sciences, education, pharmacy and other disciplines. The large campus integrates academic buildings, hospitals, laboratories, library services, residences, sports and cultural infrastructure. Healthcare remains a major institutional strength because medical and allied-health education is closely connected with teaching hospitals and clinical services. The university also supports research, doctoral study, community outreach, cultural activities and professional training across its faculties. Its Meerut location provides access to the National Capital Region while serving a large population from western Uttar Pradesh. The institution's stated values link education with service, character, social responsibility and national development. SVSU's evolution from a dental college and healthcare network into a large multidisciplinary university is central to its institutional identity. Its current university framework dates from 2008, while academic programs, research activity, student services and institutional partnerships continue to evolve. The Meerut setting also shapes the professional, cultural and community networks available around the university. The institution's development reflects a continuing effort to combine degree education with research, practical learning and student development.
