RAJIV GANDHI UNIVERSITY OF KNOWLEDGE TECHNOLOGIES Summary
Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Andhra Pradesh is a public technical university created in 2008 to expand high-quality residential technology education for talented students, especially those from rural backgrounds. The university was constituted under Andhra Pradesh Act No. 18 of 2008 and originally developed a distinctive multi-campus model with institutes at Nuzvid, RK Valley and Basara. Its hallmark academic structure is a six-year integrated program that combines two years of pre-university education with four years of engineering study, allowing students selected after secondary school to progress through a continuous residential curriculum. Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, the Basara campus became part of Telangana while Nuzvid and RK Valley remained with RGUKT Andhra Pradesh. The state later expanded the system by establishing additional campuses at Srikakulam and Ongole in 2016. RGUKT’s teaching model combines foundational science and mathematics with engineering, computing, laboratories, project work and campus-based student development. The university’s residential approach is intended to reduce geographic and socioeconomic barriers for meritorious rural youth while creating an intensive learning environment. Research, innovation, entrepreneurship, placement support and technology-enabled teaching have become increasingly prominent as the campuses matured. The university operates under a common statutory framework while its constituent institutes maintain substantial campus-level academic administration. The university is recognized under the UGC Act and has developed postgraduate and research activity in addition to its distinctive integrated undergraduate pathway. The Nuzvid and RK Valley campuses form the historical core of the Andhra Pradesh system, while Srikakulam and Ongole broaden its regional reach. Residential life is closely integrated with academics, laboratories, student activities and career-development support across the university’s campuses. The institution continues to develop this role through public higher education, academic administration and student services. Its regional responsibilities remain closely connected with access, quality assurance, research and long-term institutional development.
