SHRI VISHWAKARMA SKILL UNIVERSITY Summary
Shri Vishwakarma Skill University is a public state university in Haryana created specifically to integrate higher education with employability, industry practice and advanced skill development. Established by the Government of Haryana through State Legislative Act No. 25 of 2016, it identifies itself as India’s first government skill university. The main campus is being developed at Dudhola in Palwal district, while the university has also operated through transit facilities in Gurugram. Its academic model differs from a conventional university because programmes are designed around occupational competencies, practical training, industry standards, apprenticeships and emerging technologies rather than classroom theory alone. The university organizes learning through skill faculties and works with industry partners to expose students to real workplaces, internships and on-the-job training. Its mission is to bridge the gap between academic learning and the skills demanded by changing labour markets, while also supporting entrepreneurship and lifelong upskilling. The Dudhola campus covers more than eighty acres and has been planned as a modern skill-education environment with academic, training and support infrastructure. SVSU also develops Centres of Excellence to strengthen technical competencies in areas where industry demand is evolving quickly. The university’s programmes span several levels and sectors, combining formal degrees, diplomas, certifications and work-integrated learning. Governance includes representation from state departments connected with higher education, technical education and skill development as well as national skill-development bodies, reflecting its applied mandate. Shri Vishwakarma Skill University therefore functions as both a university and a state-level skills ecosystem, with a strong focus on practical competence, employability, innovation and partnerships that connect curriculum design directly to industry requirements. Its curriculum philosophy treats the workplace as part of learning, with assessment focused on capability and academic understanding. This approach is intended to create graduates who can move more smoothly into employment, enterprise creation or further specialized training in fast-changing technical and service sectors.
