SARVAJANIK UNIVERSITY Summary
Sarvajanik University is a state private university in Surat, Gujarat, established in 2021 by Sarvajanik Education Society (SES). Although the university itself is recent, its educational lineage is deep. The society traces its roots to the Surat English School founded in 1888 and was formally established in 1912. Over more than a century, SES expanded into a large not-for-profit education network in South Gujarat before creating the university under the Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2009 as amended in 2021. The university’s academic identity is summarized through the values “Integrated, Inclusive & Innovative,” reflecting an effort to bring established SES institutions into a unified multidisciplinary framework. Its constituent institutes cover architecture and design, business and commerce, engineering and technology, law, management, science, humanities and related areas. This structure gives Sarvajanik University a combination of legacy colleges and a newer university-level governance model. The institution emphasizes critical thinking, social responsibility, adaptability, innovation and problem solving, with learning intended to connect professional preparation to wider civic and human concerns. Being located in Surat is also significant: the city is a major center for textiles, diamonds, manufacturing, trade and entrepreneurship, creating a strong surrounding environment for applied projects, internships and industry interaction. The university publishes its statutory act, first statutes, institutional development plans, annual reports, recognition information and academic documents. Its story is therefore best understood as a transformation rather than a completely new educational venture: a century-old philanthropic education society reorganized parts of its higher-education ecosystem under a private university created in 2021. Students should review the specific constituent institute and program requirements relevant to their intended field. Another important feature is continuity: students study within a university created recently, but many constituent academic traditions and facilities were developed by SES over decades. This gives the institution a different starting point from a newly built greenfield private university.
