VANITA VISHRAM WOMENS UNIVERSITY Summary
Vanita Vishram Women's University (VVWU) is a women-focused state private university in Surat, Gujarat, established with effect from 1 June 2021 under the Gujarat Private Universities framework. The university is the higher-education extension of Vanita Vishram, a women's education and welfare institution founded in Surat on 15 May 1907 by Bajigauri D. Munshi and Shivgauri K. Gajjar. The founders began with an ashram dedicated to the education, self-reliance and social upliftment of women, and the organization gradually expanded into a large educational network serving girls from school through higher education. VVWU is described by the institution as Gujarat's first women's university and was developed in a public-private-partnership framework with the state government. Its academic design emphasizes women's empowerment, employability, practical learning, entrepreneurship, research and industry-academia linkages. Programs are delivered through schools covering commerce and management, sciences and technology, humanities and social sciences, computer science, design and other contemporary areas. The university uses internships, skill-development modules, value-added courses, experiential learning and industry collaboration to connect academic work with career preparation. The central Surat campus benefits from the city's strong textile, diamond, finance, trade, technology and entrepreneurial ecosystems. The parent Vanita Vishram organization continues to provide the university with a century-old institutional culture centered on women's education. Research, cultural activity, counseling and student-development programs support a campus environment designed specifically around women's higher education and leadership. VANITA VISHRAM WOMENS UNIVERSITY operates within Gujarat's higher-education framework and serves students from the Surat region as well as learners from other parts of India. Its current university framework dates from 2021, while programs, research activity, student services and external partnerships continue to develop. Laboratory, library, digital-learning and student-support resources complement classroom teaching and practical work across the university. Professional programs follow the standards and approval requirements of the relevant statutory or professional bodies where applicable.
