Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Gwalior Summary
Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya is a state agricultural university headquartered in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. It was established by the Government of Madhya Pradesh on 19 August 2008 as the state’s second agricultural university through the bifurcation of Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur. The university was created to give western and northern Madhya Pradesh a more focused institutional structure for agricultural education, location-specific research and extension. Its mandate covers crop science, horticulture, agricultural engineering and other allied areas through constituent colleges, research stations, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and specialized directorates. Teaching is closely linked with field experimentation because the university serves farming systems that vary substantially across agro-climatic zones. Research addresses productivity, profitability, sustainability, crop improvement, resource management and technologies relevant to farmers in the university’s jurisdiction. Extension activity carries research findings beyond the campus through demonstrations, training, advisory work and interaction with rural communities. The university’s Directorate of Research and Services coordinates scientific programs while constituent colleges train graduates and researchers for agriculture and allied sectors. RVSKVV therefore functions as both a higher-education institution and a regional agricultural knowledge network, linking laboratories, experimental farms and extension centres with the practical needs of producers. The university’s statutory framework was consolidated through the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya Act, 2009. Its headquarters on Raja Pancham Singh Marg in Gwalior coordinate academic and research units distributed across the university’s territorial area. The institution inherited established agricultural colleges and research infrastructure from the earlier JNKVV system. Its research mission explicitly emphasizes sustainable productivity and improved rural livelihoods in Madhya Pradesh. The institution continues to develop this role through public higher education, academic administration and student services. Its regional responsibilities remain closely connected with access, quality assurance, research and long-term institutional development. These functions together shape the university’s contemporary academic identity and public-service mission.
