Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad Summary
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) is a major state technological university headquartered at Kukatpally in Hyderabad, Telangana. Its modern university history dates to 2 October 1972, when Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was established by the Andhra Pradesh Legislature as the country's first technological university. The Hyderabad campus also carries the earlier legacy of Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College, established in 1965. Over time, JNTU developed from a group of constituent technical colleges into a large teaching, research and affiliating system. In 1995, the university received an expanded affiliating role, increasing its academic reach across technical institutions in the region. A major structural change occurred in 2008, when the former JNTU was reorganized into separate universities and the Hyderabad institution became Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad. Following the formation of Telangana in 2014, JNTUH continued as a central public institution for technological education in the new state. The university operates from its Kukatpally campus and oversees constituent colleges and affiliated institutions across engineering, pharmacy, management and computer applications. Its academic portfolio includes undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in engineering and technology, pharmaceutical sciences, management, applied sciences and related fields. JNTUH also supports honours and minor pathways, research centres, industry interaction and collaborative academic activity. Its significance lies not only in direct teaching but also in curriculum design, examinations, affiliation, academic regulation and quality oversight across a broad technical-education network. The university's evolution from an engineering-college base to a statewide technological university reflects more than five decades of institutional development in southern India's engineering and professional education landscape. The university's academic ecosystem also includes specialized schools and centres supporting management, pharmaceutical sciences, research, innovation and continuing professional education. This combination of direct university teaching and large-scale affiliation makes JNTUH an important coordinating institution for technical curricula and academic standards across Telangana.
