IIHMR UNIVERSITY Summary
IIHMR University is a specialist postgraduate and research university in Jaipur, Rajasthan, focused on health management, public health, pharmaceutical management, development studies and related areas. Its institutional genesis dates to 5 October 1984, when the Indian Institute of Health Management Research was established as a nonprofit society. The university framework came later through the IIHMR University Ordinance of 2013 and the IIHMR University, Jaipur Act, 2014. Unlike a broad undergraduate private university, IIHMR has built its identity around management and research for health systems. Its schools include the Institute of Health Management Research, School of Pharmaceutical Management, a development-studies school, the SD Gupta School of Public Health and the School of Digital Health. Academic offerings include specialized MBA programmes, public-health education, executive study and doctoral research in health, hospital, development and digital-health fields. Research, training, consultation and institutional networking have been central to IIHMR from its earliest years. The organization has worked with health systems, hospitals, governments, development agencies and academic partners, making applied research a defining feature of the university. Its cooperation with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is among the institution's notable international academic relationships. The transition to university status in 2013–2014 did not replace the earlier IIHMR identity; it formalized a research-focused higher-education model built over nearly three decades. This continuity explains why the source workbook records 1984 while the statutory university date is later. The Jaipur campus therefore combines a long institutional research legacy with the degree-awarding powers and governance of a private university. Its specialist focus differentiates IIHMR from multidisciplinary universities that treat healthcare management as only one programme area. University status developed through a 2013 ordinance and Rajasthan Act No. 3 of 2014. Academic strengths include hospital and health management, pharmaceutical management and public health.
