GM University is a state private university in Davanagere, Karnataka, established in 2023 under Karnataka Act No. 19 of 2023. The university is sponsored by Srishyla Education Trust, founded in 2000 by the late G. Mallikarjunappa, a former Member of Parliament and regional education philanthropist. Its university status brought more than two decades of GM Group educational activity into a single higher-education framework. The institutional lineage includes GM Institute of Technology, established in 2001, along with other colleges developed by the trust in engineering, management, pharmacy, science and commerce. GM University began operations on 21 August 2023 from its Davanagere campus. The transition allowed the group to integrate professional and general education, develop university-level research and create more flexible interdisciplinary academic structures. The university's academic focus includes engineering and technology, computer-related fields, management, commerce, sciences, pharmacy and other professional areas. It emphasizes contemporary curricula, practical learning, entrepreneurship, international collaboration and industry partnerships. Its Davanagere location gives it a regional role in Central Karnataka, where the sponsoring trust had already built a substantial education base before university formation. GM University's history is therefore clearly layered: a charitable trust began in 2000, an engineering college followed in 2001, additional institutions were added, and state legislation created the university in 2023. This continuity provides a mature institutional foundation for a relatively new university identity. For students, GM University combines the infrastructure and experience of existing GM Group institutions with the academic flexibility of a new multidisciplinary university.
