COER ROORKEE Summary
COER University in Roorkee, Uttarakhand builds on the long institutional legacy of the College of Engineering Roorkee, founded in 1998 by the Seth Roshan Lal Jain Trust. The college began as one of Roorkee's early private engineering institutions and gradually expanded its programme base, laboratories, accreditation profile and alumni network. In 2021 the state approved the University of Engineering and Technology Roorkee as a private university, and in 2023 the institution was renamed COER University, linking the new university directly to the established COER identity. The campus on the Roorkee-Haridwar road extends over about 75 acres and now supports a much broader multidisciplinary portfolio than the original engineering college. Academic areas include engineering and computing, management, agriculture, pharmacy, nursing, paramedical and allied health sciences, law, media studies, applied sciences, Ayurveda and other professional fields. COER emphasizes research-driven teaching, practical laboratories, entrepreneurship, industry links and student projects. Its facilities include research and teaching laboratories, library resources, sports spaces, hostels, clubs and innovation support. The institution's Roorkee location places it in a city strongly associated with engineering and higher education. COER's history is therefore characterized by institutional transformation: an engineering college that steadily broadened its disciplines and then entered a private-university phase while retaining its established campus and alumni base. The source workbook preserves 2021 as the establishment year because that marks the approval of the university structure, while the COER University name was adopted later in 2023. This layered history explains why the university simultaneously describes a recent legal identity and a much longer institutional legacy dating to 1998. Its present model combines engineering heritage with multidisciplinary professional education, research, entrepreneurship and applied learning. The university phase has therefore widened academic choice without severing the institution’s older engineering identity, campus traditions and long alumni connection to Roorkee.
