The University of North West Himalayas Summary
The University of North West Himalayas (UNwH) is a state private university in Dehradun district, Uttarakhand, established in 2025 under the state's private-university framework. The university is located at Sangaon-Dharkot near Thano in the Himalayan foothills and received its formal statutory establishment through the Uttarakhand Private Universities Amendment Act, 2025. A national regulator letter dated September 2025 records that the institution was established with effect from 3 July 2025 and included in the list of universities maintained under Section 2(f) of the regulator Act. UNwH presents itself as a contemporary multidisciplinary university combining academic foundations with hands-on learning, career preparation, research and regional development. Its current faculties include management and commerce, engineering and technology, humanities, hotel management, yoga and naturopathy, and science and agriculture. Programs extend from certificate and diploma study through undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in computing, business, humanities, media, hospitality, tourism, yoga, agriculture, science and related areas. The university also lists vocational programs linked to manufacturing, logistics, pharmaceuticals, food processing, textiles, electronics and other industry skill areas. Campus and student-support plans include technical clubs, sports, counseling, career development, tutoring and grievance-redressal systems. The Dehradun foothill location supports an institutional identity built around sustainability, ecological awareness and a quieter learning environment outside the city center. Industry-academia interaction, internships, guest lectures and skill-building are presented as important parts of the university's model. The institution's Dehradun location also shapes the professional, cultural and community networks available to students. Academic development since 2025 has included continued work on curriculum, governance, student support and institutional partnerships. Research, seminars, projects and co-curricular activities provide additional settings for students to apply classroom learning. Professional programs remain subject to the approvals and standards of the relevant statutory or regulatory bodies where required. Library, digital-learning and student-support systems complement the university's teaching and practical-learning environment.
