HIMALAYIYA UNIVERSITY Summary
Himalayiya University is the former legal name of the private university now operating as Sparsh Himalaya University in Dehradun district, Uttarakhand. It was established through Uttarakhand Act No. 8 of 2019, sponsored by Himalayiya Ayurvedic Yog Evam Prakartik Chikitsa Sansthan at Fatehpur Tanda, Jeevanwala. The institution's roots and founding legislation gave health, Ayurveda, yoga and allied education an important place alongside wider professional and general study. The 2019 Act authorized education, training and research in AYUSH, health, technical fields, management, law, medical and related areas. The university later expanded its academic structure to include nursing, yogic science and naturopathy, paramedical and health sciences, computer applications, commerce and management, arts and humanities, journalism and mass communication, hotel management and other disciplines. This mix reflects a transition from a health-oriented sponsoring society to a broader multidisciplinary university. A significant institutional change occurred when Uttarakhand amended its private-university schedule and substituted the name Sparsh Himalaya University for Himalayiya University. The current university website identifies the institution as formerly Himalayiya University while retaining the 2019 statutory foundation. Its Fatehpur Tanda campus sits on the Dehradun-Haridwar corridor, close to Doiwala. The university emphasizes student-centered learning, practical skills, ethical development and a Himalayan learning environment. Its health-science and wellness roots remain visible even as the academic portfolio has widened. The name change did not erase the institution's earlier legal history; instead, it marked a new public identity for the same university framework. Its development therefore links Ayurveda and health education with newer professional and multidisciplinary programmes. The academic structure now extends into nursing, paramedical sciences, computer applications and humanities. 3 April 2019 — Uttarakhand enacted the Himalayiya University Act, 2019 as Act No. 8 of 2019. Founding phase — Health, AYUSH and allied education formed a major part of the university's academic identity.
