Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Gayatrikunj Summary
Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya is a private university at Gayatrikunj near Shantikunj in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Established in 2002, it was created to combine modern higher education with Indian cultural values, scientific spirituality, ethical development and social service. The university’s conceptual roots are linked to Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya and the All World Gayatri Pariwar. Its establishment narrative records that Bhagwati Devi Sharma identified the spiritual significance of the site during a major event in 1990; the land was later acquired, and a bhoomi poojan on 23 May 1999 marked the beginning of construction. Dev Sanskriti Mahavidyalaya preceded the university, which received statutory status through the Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya Act, 2002 and a state gazette notification in April 2002. The sponsoring body is Shri Vedmata Gayatri Trust, Shantikunj. DSVV’s academic model is distinctive because it integrates conventional university study with yoga, psychology, Indian culture, spirituality, holistic health, education, communication and related interdisciplinary fields. The university promotes a simple campus lifestyle and expects students to engage with social responsibility and service. Its campus in the Himalayan foothills includes green spaces, herbal gardens, wellness-oriented facilities and an environment designed around reflective learning. Research activity includes interdisciplinary work in Indian knowledge traditions, yoga, spirituality and Yagya-related studies, supported by university publications and journals. DSVV also hosts programmes and festivals connected with yoga, culture and spirituality and has developed international collaborations linked to its cultural mission. The university’s identity is therefore not defined only by its 2002 legal establishment. It is built around a wider social-spiritual movement and an educational philosophy that treats knowledge, character, service and cultural understanding as interconnected parts of higher education. Regular community-oriented activities, residential learning and contact with Shantikunj reinforce this educational model, making the campus experience intentionally different from a conventional career-focused private university. daily.
