Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Bellary Summary
Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKUB) is a state public university headquartered in Ballari, Karnataka. The Government of Karnataka established the university in 2010 under the Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000 to provide a separate higher-education system for the Ballari and Koppal region. Named after the Vijayanagara emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya, the university draws its identity from the historical and cultural landscape of northern Karnataka while functioning as a modern teaching, research and affiliating institution. The main campus is at Vinayaka Nagar in Ballari and covers about 95.37 acres. VSKUB also operates postgraduate centers that extend university teaching beyond the headquarters. Its affiliating jurisdiction includes colleges across Ballari and Koppal districts, giving the institution a substantial role in undergraduate academic administration as well as postgraduate education. The university reports around 120 affiliated colleges, although the number can change as affiliations are added, renewed or reorganized. Academic activity is organized across humanities, social sciences, commerce and management, natural sciences and other disciplines, with postgraduate and research programs delivered through university departments and centers. VSKUB’s responsibilities include curriculum development, examinations, affiliation, research supervision, student support and quality assurance for its campus and college network. The university also promotes study connected with the region’s social, economic, linguistic and historical context. The institution’s creation separated the Ballari-Koppal area from a larger university jurisdiction and placed academic decision-making closer to local colleges and students. Its location near the wider Vijayanagara heritage region gives the university a strong cultural reference point, while its academic mandate is contemporary and multidisciplinary. Since 2010, VSKUB has developed as the principal state university serving its two-district jurisdiction, combining campus-based postgraduate study with the governance of a broad affiliated-college system. Its postgraduate centers help extend advanced study to locations beyond the main campus and strengthen access across the university’s geographically broad regional jurisdiction.
