PANDIT DEENDAYAL ENERGY UNIVERSITY, GANDHI NAGAR Summary
Pandit Deendayal Energy University is a private university in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, created in 2007 by the Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute through a state act. It began as Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, reflecting a strong early focus on petroleum, energy and infrastructure education, and later broadened into a multidisciplinary institution spanning engineering, sciences, management and liberal studies. The university occupies a purpose-built campus in Gandhinagar and combines sector-focused professional education with research and international academic engagement. The institutional story predates the university itself. In 2006, GERMI established the Institute of Petroleum Management to address managerial needs in the energy and infrastructure sectors. When the university was established on 4 April 2007, that institute became the School of Petroleum Management. Academic growth subsequently produced major schools for petroleum technology, technology, liberal studies and management, while science and research activity expanded alongside them. The university is recognized by the UGC under Section 2(f) and has also received Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation recognition from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. In 2021, the university adopted the name Pandit Deendayal Energy University, signalling a broader energy and sustainability identity beyond the original petroleum label. Its academic model emphasizes industry relevance, leadership development, laboratories, exchange opportunities and collaborative research. The result is an institution that retains specialist strength in energy while supporting wider technology, management, humanities and science education within Gujarat's capital region. Promoted by GERMI with links to government, industry and energy-sector organizations. Originally named Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University. Renamed Pandit Deendayal Energy University in 2021. The Gandhinagar campus extends across roughly 100 acres. The School of Management traces its origin to the Institute of Petroleum Management founded in 2006. Academic areas include engineering, petroleum technology, management, liberal studies and sciences. Holds Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation recognition from DSIR.
