Mahayogi Gorakhnath University Gorakhpur is a state private university in eastern Uttar Pradesh established in 2021 under the Uttar Pradesh private-university framework. It is sponsored by Guru Shri Gorakshnath Chikitsalaya Samiti and forms part of a much older educational and healthcare tradition associated with Gorakshapeeth and Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad. The Parishad was founded in 1932 and developed schools, colleges and training institutions long before the university was created. The university is located at Arogyadham on Balapar Road in Sonbarsa, Gorakhpur. Its academic structure combines medicine, Ayurveda, health and life sciences, pharmacy, nursing and paramedical sciences with agriculture, commerce and management. The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences began in 2022 with biotechnology, biochemistry and microbiology, connecting clinical education with laboratory science and research. Diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral study are supported across selected disciplines. MGUG was added to the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities framework through the 2021 amendment ordinance and received permission to operate that year. The university was inaugurated on 28 August 2021 by the President of India. Its development extends the long-running service orientation of Gorakshapeeth into a modern university combining healthcare, Indian systems of medicine, life sciences, agriculture and professional education. 9 June 2021 — A state notification formed part of the legal process enabling the university to operate. The university describes itself as the first private university in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences began in 2022 with biotechnology, biochemistry and microbiology. Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad was established, beginning the educational lineage connected with the future university. Pre-university phase — Gorakshapeeth expanded education and healthcare through schools, colleges, Ayurvedic institutions and clinical services.
