GURUGRAM UNIVERSITY, GURUGRAM Summary
Gurugram University is a state public university established by the Government of Haryana under the Gurugram University Act, 2017, with its headquarters in Gurugram. The university was conceived to expand public higher-education capacity in one of Haryana's fastest-growing urban, corporate and technology centres. Its academic organisation spans the Faculty of Commerce and Management, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Law and Humanities, Faculty of Life Sciences, and Faculty of Social Sciences and Education. Departments include commerce, management studies, engineering and technology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, law, English and foreign languages, Indian knowledge and languages, media studies and developmental studies. Life-science and health-related areas include pharmaceutical sciences, physiotherapy, neurosciences, nursing, public health and biosciences. The social-science and education group includes psychology, social work, education, economics, political science, and public policy, administration and governance. This range gives the institution a deliberately multidisciplinary profile rather than limiting it to the engineering and management subjects commonly associated with Gurugram's corporate economy. The university has operated from its Sector 51 campus while developing a new campus at Sector 87, creating a transition from its original facilities to a larger long-term academic setting. Research, publications, internal quality assurance, training and placement services and student-support functions are integrated into the university's institutional structure. Its location offers scope for engagement with technology firms, healthcare organisations, professional services, start-ups, public agencies and schools across the National Capital Region. At the same time, the university's public mandate extends to foundational sciences, humanities, languages, education and social development. The combination of professional disciplines and public-policy, health, media and cultural studies allows interdisciplinary work around the rapid social and economic transformation of Gurugram and Haryana. As a relatively young university, its development is still closely connected with campus expansion, faculty building and the creation of institutional systems for research and student services.
