DRIEMS UNIVERSITY Summary
DRIEMS University is a private university at Tangi in Cuttack district, Odisha, built on an educational institution whose roots date to 1999. The DRIEMS initiative was founded by Dr. Pramod Chandra Rath in the aftermath of the Odisha Super Cyclone, with the institution named in memory of his father, Dhaneswar Rath. It began with engineering education and gradually developed into a wider group of professional institutions before attaining university status under Odisha legislation. The university now operates a large multidisciplinary campus of roughly ninety acres and brings together engineering and technology, management, health sciences, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, paramedical studies and other professional areas. This breadth reflects a long transition from a single engineering-focused institution to an integrated university. DRIEMS emphasizes practical education, laboratories, workshops, clinical or field exposure where relevant, employability and industry engagement. Its engineering heritage remains important, but healthcare education has become another major pillar of the university’s academic structure. The campus includes teaching buildings, laboratories, library resources, residences, sports facilities and student-support infrastructure. Institutional development has also included professional recognition and student technical activity; the engineering college received an ISTE best-engineering-college award in 2018, while student chapters and professional associations have contributed to campus learning. University status was enabled through the DRIEMS University Odisha Act, 2022, with subsequent statutes formalizing governance and academic administration. The institution’s location between Cuttack and the wider coastal Odisha region gives it a strong regional role in technical and health-professional education. DRIEMS University’s defining story is one of sustained institutional expansion: an education initiative established after a major natural disaster evolving over more than two decades into a multidisciplinary private university with engineering, healthcare and professional education at its core. The campus allows students from different professional schools to share academic and cultural facilities, supporting an integrated university experience beyond the institution’s original engineering structure.
