DAV University Summary
DAV University is a private multidisciplinary university on the Jalandhar-Pathankot National Highway in Punjab. Established in 2013 under a legislative Act of the Punjab Government, it is promoted by the DAV College Managing Committee, one of India’s long-established non-government educational organizations. The university’s institutional identity is closely linked to the DAV movement, which began with the first DAV institution in Lahore on 1 June 1886 under the influence of the educational and social ideas associated with Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Lala Hansraj served as the first honorary headmaster of that pioneering institution. DAV University carries this historical educational tradition into a modern university environment. Its campus extends across roughly 72 acres and supports programmes across engineering and technology, management, commerce, computer applications, languages, humanities, social sciences, physical sciences and life sciences. The university emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, arguing that different areas of knowledge should inform and enrich one another rather than operate in isolation. Academic work is supported by modern classrooms, laboratories, library resources, sports and fitness infrastructure and residential or student-support facilities. The Jalandhar location gives the university access to a major educational and commercial centre of Punjab while its highway campus provides a self-contained setting for teaching and research. Research, postgraduate study and doctoral work complement undergraduate education, and the university’s programme range reflects both professional and liberal academic disciplines. Student development also includes sports, cultural participation and co-curricular activity. DAV University’s distinguishing feature is the way it combines a university established in 2013 with the much older educational legacy of the DAV movement. Its academic character is therefore shaped by multidisciplinary study, institutional continuity, modern professional education and a value-oriented tradition extending back to the nineteenth century. The campus also reflects the DAV system’s emphasis on education linked with social responsibility, discipline and participation beyond the classroom, while maintaining a research and professional-learning environment.
