PLAKSHA UNIVERSITY Summary
Plaksha University is a private technology university in Mohali, Punjab, created by a large community of entrepreneurs, technology leaders and academics seeking to reimagine engineering education. The idea began between 2015 and 2017 through conversations about the future of technology education, and the Reimagining Higher Education Foundation was established in 2017 as the nonprofit vehicle for turning that idea into an institution. The university was later established in 2021 under Punjab's private-university policy framework. The founding phase combined programme experimentation with campus development. An academic advisory board was formed in 2017, the Young Technology Scholars programme launched in 2018 and the institution adopted the Plaksha name in 2019. The Mohali campus foundation stone was laid in February 2019. Plaksha's academic model integrates technology with design, social sciences, entrepreneurship and self-development, and its research strategy focuses on large societal and technological challenges rather than narrow departmental silos. The first undergraduate cohort arrived at the Mohali campus in 2021, while doctoral researchers and faculty development expanded soon afterward. Plaksha's founding community includes more than one hundred entrepreneurs, corporate leaders and supporters, giving the institution a distinctive philanthropic and industry-linked structure. Its academic identity is built around interdisciplinary engineering, computing, biological systems, data science, entrepreneurship and research centers designed to connect universities, industry and public problem solving.
