Supreme Court Seeks NBEMS Explanation on NEET PG Answer-Key Disclosure
The Supreme Court has asked the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to explain why it does not disclose the actual NEET PG questions alongside answer-key information. At a November 2, 2026 hearing, the Bench of Justices P. S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe sought written submissions on how releasing the questions could affect the examination’s integrity.
The Court was hearing petitions seeking greater transparency in NEET PG evaluation. Candidates and petitioners have argued that question identifiers and answer information do not let them fully verify the questions and options they saw during the examination. NBEMS told the Court that its postgraduate question bank is limited and that releasing questions could affect its future use. The Bench indicated that it wanted a fuller explanation.
What the Court Asked NBEMS to Explain
The written response is expected to address why NEET PG should follow a different disclosure approach from examinations that make question papers available. The Court’s request is a step in the ongoing proceedings. It is not a final ruling that NBEMS must publish the complete paper or change its answer-key process.
The dispute concerns the difference between access to evaluation details and access to the actual question text. Petitioners have sought the questions and answer options shown to each candidate, the candidate’s recorded responses, the correct answers and marks awarded. NBEMS has defended limited disclosure on the basis that questions may be reused and that the question bank is finite.

What Candidates Need to Know
The November 2 hearing did not, by itself, reopen an answer-key objection window, revise NEET PG scores or direct immediate publication of question papers. Candidates should continue to rely on notices from NBEMS for scorecards, answer-key access and any further instructions. Those seeking an update on the case should check the Supreme Court’s official case-status and order information.
The proceedings raise a balance between two concerns: allowing candidates to understand how their answers were evaluated and protecting the question bank used to conduct a national examination. The Court has asked NBEMS to support its position with a more detailed explanation. Any change to disclosure rules will depend on further directions in the case.
