MGM University is a self-financed state private university in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, established through the MGM University Act, 2019. Its institutional roots are much older than the university statute. Mahatma Gandhi Mission was registered on 20 December 1982 under the leadership of Kamalkishore Kadam and other founder members, beginning a long education and healthcare movement inspired by Gandhian values. Over the following decades, Mahatma Gandhi Mission developed institutions across engineering, architecture, management, computer science, information technology, biotechnology, commerce, fine arts, performing arts, journalism, film, fashion and related fields, alongside major healthcare activity. The university was created by bringing a broad selection of these academic units into a common university framework. MGM University's academic structure is organized through broad faculties including engineering and technology, management and commerce, basic and applied sciences, social sciences and humanities, and performing arts. Constituent schools and institutes support both professional and creative disciplines, while incubation, heritage, culture and research are visible parts of the wider MGM ecosystem. The 2019 university therefore represents a later stage in an institutional journey that began in 1982 and expanded for decades before statutory university status.
