JIS University is a state private university at Agarpara in the Kolkata metropolitan region of West Bengal. It was established through the JIS University Act, 2014, West Bengal Act XXII of 2014, which came into force in February 2015. The university is part of JIS Group Educational Initiatives, a wider education network that had developed numerous institutions and professional programmes before the university was created. The university offers multidisciplinary education across science, engineering, pharmacy, management, juridical sciences, education, hospitality, agriculture and other fields at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Its academic approach combines classroom instruction with learning-management systems, industry-oriented curriculum, research, entrepreneurship and skill development. Foreign-language learning, internships and exchange opportunities are also used to add professional and international exposure to selected programmes. JIS University's statutory history is clearly anchored in the 2014 Act and the government notification that brought it into force in February 2015. The institution subsequently joined the Association of Indian Universities in 2017. Before 2014 — JIS Group developed a broad network of educational institutions in eastern India. 2014 — West Bengal Act XXII of 2014 provided for the establishment of JIS University. Current phase — JIS University continues multidisciplinary teaching and research from its Agarpara campus.
