HEMCHAND YADAV VISHWAVIDYALAYA Summary
Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya is a state public university headquartered at Raipur Naka in Durg, Chhattisgarh, created through the restructuring of the state's university system in 2015. The Government of Chhattisgarh established the university through Chhattisgarh Act No. 16 of 2015, which amended the Chhattisgarh Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, 1973. The new university came into existence after the bifurcation of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, bringing a large group of colleges in and around Durg under a closer regional university administration. Dr. Narendra Prasad Dixit was appointed the first Vice-Chancellor by the Governor in July 2015, and Dr. S. K. Tripathi was appointed the first Registrar later that year. The university initially operated from the old Government Girls' Postgraduate College building at Raipur Naka, Durg, which was allotted for the new institution. Its jurisdiction has included affiliated colleges across districts such as Durg, Bemetara, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham and newer administrative districts formed in the region. Because it is predominantly an affiliating university, a major part of its work concerns enrollment, examinations, results, academic regulations, college coordination and quality oversight. The university also develops its own research and academic initiatives while supporting a large and diverse college network. Current systems include NEP-related enrollment, the Academic Bank of Credits, Samarth portal functions, student grievance mechanisms and university-level academic boards. Its public role is significant for a densely populated educational corridor that includes Durg and Bhilai as well as surrounding rural districts. The institution's scale means that academic administration must accommodate conventional programmes, teacher education, professional courses and non-collegiate learners across many affiliated institutions. Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya therefore functions less like a small residential campus and more like a regional academic system linking colleges through common regulations and examinations. At the same time, university leadership has emphasized research, innovation, inclusion and implementation of the National Education Policy.
